Earlier this month, four U.S. government agencies announced a new school safety resource. The website provides joint guidance from the Departments of Education, Justice, Homeland Security and Health and Human Services.
The website is intended to provide actionable recommendations to create a safe and supportive learning environment. Topics covered include bullying and cyberbullying, cybersecurity, emergency planning, mental health, school climate, public health, targeted violence and threat assessment.
In addition to safety and security opportunities for K-12 schools, the website offers resources on COVID-19 testing, as well as grant and event funding resources. Also featured are tools to assist school districts in finding state-specific guidance and safety readiness plans.
Should you have any questions about this new resource or any other school safety-related questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to William J. Zee or any of the attorneys in the Appel, Yost & Zee Education Group.
